Horse & Hooves Rescue and Sanctuary.
The first of its kind in Las Vegas!

5 goats, 2 dogs and a horse walk into a barn…
Sounds like the beginning of a joke, right?

No joke. It’s Hearts Alive Village Horse & Hooves Rescue and Sanctuary, right here in Las Vegas.

We had just begun building our sanctuary to rescue horses, donkeys, goats, pigs and other animals that need protection. But when 5 goats, 2 dogs and a beautiful horse named Annie needed our help, we couldn’t turn them away. Annie and her pals had been undernourished, neglected, and left to die.  We quickly built safe, temporary quarters but there is so much more to do.

We are happy to report that thanks to our wonderful caretakers, Sharon and Tom, these guys and several others are living the Life of Riley at HAV. Including Joe…

His life was saved because we are here.

His life was saved because we are here.

Joe is a 9-year-old “gentle giant” who was being treated for serious health issues. His owner could no longer afford his care and he was at risk of being euthanized. After careful evaluation by our medical team, they found his condition was not as life-threatening as originally thought. Now Joe is living a life never thought possible at HAV. For an appointment to visit Joe and others, email info@heartsalivevillage.org.

Joe is one of our success stories. With your help many more will follow. Will you donate to save our animals in need?

A safe space to heal.

Before setting a hoof on our land, we want to know the animal’s  age, gender and history. We request  the name and contact info for its veterinarian. But we don’t stop there. At our expense, we bring in our own veterinary consultant.

If it’s determined that an animal is going to come to the Rescue, our vet will do a well care check. All of their vaccinations and medical needs will be met while they are with Hearts Alive. As the animal settles in we will evaluate and determine their adoptability.

Meet the Sanctuary’s Resident Managers

Sharon & Tom McGarry

No strangers to ranch life, Sharon and Tom developed and managed their 20-acre Whiffler Hill Farm in Waterford, CT. They built their house, the barn and managed a 16-horse boarding facility, a herd of 25 sheep, and 6 milk goats.

Sharon is a graduate of Findlay College in Ohio, in Equestrian Studies and has a degree in Animal Sciences from the University of Connecticut. She earned an MBA from the University of New Haven. Tom has a degree in Liberal Arts from Champlain College in Vermont and worked in the wholesale produce business.

The couple is thrilled to get back to their roots, caring for animals at the HAV Horse Rescue and Sanctuary, and helping to save their lives.

Our sanctuary is still not complete and that is where you come in. Help us raise the barn!  This special building will provide a comfortable space with custom features for animals looking forward to a better future.  Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated!
