Everyone loves an adorable kitten. Unfortunately, there are way more kittens than there are homes. Stand by for some astonishing facts.

  • There are an estimated 350,000 stray cats in Las Vegas alone!
  • 1,400 cats and kittens are euthanized every day in municipal shelters around the country.
  • One unspayed female cat, her mate, and their offspring can be responsible for more than 11 million more cats over 9 years.
  • Kittens 8 weeks and under are extremely vulnerable and need special care to make it to adulthood

our Kitten Nursery

We don’t just rescue the kittens. Our goal is to rescue and spay the momma cat, too! Because if an unaltered cat is left on the streets, she could have another 1-2 litters that same year.

However, it’s not always possible to find the momma and even if we do, she may not be healthy enough to care for her kittens. This is where fosters and neonatal kitten caregivers come in.

We try to place kittens in foster homes, but we don’t always have a foster available. Our Kitten Nursery ensures little babies will be well cared for until an experienced foster home can be arranged.

Not so fast…

Nikki Martinez

No kitten will ever leave the care of Hearts Alive Village before it is spayed or neutered. Once a kitten is healthy, social, and weighs at least two pounds, it can be neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Then it is ready to be adopted into a loving home.

Nikki Martinez, our Director of Feline Solutions has been a champion for kittens and a valuable member of our team for many years. As a thank you for her hard work, our Kitten Nursery is named in her honor.

Supplies

We need a constant supply of kitten food and non-clumping litter to care for the steady stream of newcomers. Your gifts are so appreciated (by us and the felines) View our Amazon wishlist and have the products sent directly to us.

Transport

If you are not able to foster how about offering to chauffeur a kitty? Rides to vet’s appointments or a meet and greet with a potential adopter are greatly appreciated.

Adopt

Looking to add a new family member to your life? Adopting a kitten frees up space at the foster’s home for another rescue kitten. The adoption fee is $100 and they are fixed, micro-chipped and up-to-date on vaccines. Find your future kitten or cat here.
